If you want to help children and yourself, read this.
There’s a new study from Australia that shows real evidence for the benefits of school-based meditation programs. Dr Joe Dispenza partnered with Dr Peta Stapleton at Australia’s Bond University to study meditation’s effects on kids. They followed two groups of students– 900 total– across two age groups over a 10-week period. This is one of the first large-scale study of school-aged children and meditation.
You May Have Heard of Dr. Joe
Dispenza is the author of several international best-selling books on meditation including “You are the Plecebo” and “Becoming Supernatural.” He also conducts mediation workshops while studying its effects on participants. I attended one of his advanced meditation workshops a few years ago and it was quite powerful.
The paper, “‘Let’s keep calm and breathe’ – A mindfulness meditation program in school and its effects on children’s behavior and emotional awareness was recently accepted for publication in Psychology in the Schools.
The Results of Meditation for Children
The study showed that daily meditations of just five minutes for 4 to 8-year-olds increased school performance and decreased emotional and behavioral difficulties. Plus, the students said they felt happier.
In the 9 to 11 year-olds, a daily meditation of 5-minutes saw an increase in emotional awareness, and a decrease in emotional and behavioral problems. Both groups showed an increase in self-regulation.
What’s in it for you?
If these students can meditate for five minutes a day and show results, who knows what could happen in your life with just 5 minutes or more of deep breathing and stillness each day.
